Student Visas

To study in the NZ, you must apply for a student visa. The type of course and its length will determine the length of stay. In this section, you can get an overview of the student visa requirements

Confirmation of Enrollment

You must have an offer of place from an approved education provider.

Health Insurance

As an international student, you and your family members must have and maintain adequate health insurance for the whole of your stay in New Zealand.


f you are aged 17 and over, and intend to stay in New Zealand for more than 24 months you must provide police certificates from:

  • your country(s) of citizenship

  • any country(s) you've spent more than 5 years in since turning 17.

Genuine Intentions

You need to provide that you genuinely intend to meet the conditions of your visa. To decide this, some of the information that the visa office uses include:

  • information /documentation that you provide with your visa application

  • your personal circumstance such as academic and employment background, gap years, etc.

  • past visa history

Financial Capability

You must provide evidence that you have enough money to pay for:

  • Tuition fees. This includes paying fee after the visa application has been approved in principle.

  • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to New Zealand

  • proof you have enough money to buy a ticket out of New Zealand
